Scrivener, Anyone?

I've hesitated to make this post. It's pointless, boring (well, maybe not so boring) but in any case, it might even violate the rules of Blogsphere because I'm asking, not telling. What am I asking? First, the boring stuff: 1) I am computorially illiterate 2) I don't have a MAC 3) My excellent other half unscrews all my computercide attempts (actually, it's involuntary computerslaughter, really, as I don't do it intentionally) and he doesn't know his way around a MAC. What I want to know is, is Scrivener really that good? Is it worth overcoming all these obstacles? I know it won't write for me, I don't expect it too. But if any one out there remembers this post, you'll know why I'm asking.

So how bout it, Bloglodytes? Who uses Scrivener? Who likes it? Who hates it? Discombobulated minds wanna know...

Hello. I took a look at your previously posted picture, so yes, I do think Scrivener might be worth it! ;-) I am obviously very biased, being part of Literature & Latte, but you ought to at least "give it a go". There is a free trial that lasts for 30-days of use http://www.literatureandlatte.com/trial.html, plenty of support http://www.literatureandlatte.com/support.html and video tutorials http://www.literatureandlatte.com/videos/index.html. Not having a Mac is going to be an immediate issue, but we're working on that too http://www.literatureandlatte.com/about.html#windows.

Hope that you enjoy the plunge!

All the best,
David

Pfff... Why can't Scrivener be ugly and boring looking? Then I wouldn't be in this position. Maybe I can pick up a used MAC on e-bay, cheapish.

I looked some more at your page, David. It's clear to me that I'm not just computorially illiterate. I'm also a computerphobe. I need some tea now.

I am a PC person and I use Ywriter which is awesome (and ugly) and free.

But I have a friend who nervously went ahead and bought Scrivener and she's very very happy with it.

Having said that, yWriter seems to do much of what Scrivener does but it isn't quite as user friendly (and it's ugly but it's free)

Hmm... Ok, Thanks silvia. I've got a neighbour up the road who has a mac, and he's willing to let me download the demo version and try it out. The money for the program isn't really a problem; it's the money for a new computer. I have been thinking about getting a laptop, though. Might be a way to kill two birds with one very expensive rock, or it might be a waste of a good rock. Thank goodness for good neighbour, eh?

Ok - you're definitely one up on me, MotherRe - I have no idea what Scrivener is, honey.

I keep thinking of Bartelby the Scrivener. That's all I've got!

All I can remember of Bartleby is that he prefered not to. I'll let you know about scrivener after I've had a chance to try it, Robin. I'm still hoping the price of the macbooks will come down.
